Winners announced in Northville chili cookoff

The Detroit News

NORTHVILLE -- Township firefighters for the second year in a row bested the city's fire department in Saturday's Fire and Ice Festival Fire House Chili Challenge.

A crowd of several thousand braved the cold to taste salsa and chili presented by 15 local restaurants under tents on Main and Center streets.

Some contestants reported all 3,000 of their required chili samples were consumed by 3 p.m., an hour before the four-hour event ended, said Northville Police Chief Gary Goss.

Judges awarded best salsa to Poole's Tavern and best chili to NOMI, a new restaurant in town. In public voting, Sizzling Sticks had the most popular salsa and Rocky's of Northville offered the most popular chili.
